Today is day 5 of the 10th The Daily Marker 30 Day Coloring Challenge. The creator of this amazing challenge is Kathy of The Daily Marker. Kathy and her ambassadors, along with the participants of the challenge, encourage one another to spend 10 minutes per day coloring. This challenge is for everyone. ALL skill levels are welcome!
Day 2-5 – Copic Coloring
The Daily Marker 30 Day Coloring Challenge always pushes me to be a little more bold and to take chances. Well, I pushed the envelope on this card and I am happy with the result. This is how it started.
Leaves: G82, BG93 & BG75 and Flowers: YG21, R11, R21, R43, R39 & R05
I stamped the large flower found in the Simon Says Stamp Beautiful Flowers set on 80# Neenah Cardstock. First I colored the leaves and then moved on to the flowers. I added several layers. Once the coloring was done I wanted to experiment with one of Kathy’s techniques. So, I dabbed some copic various blending solution on a small rag with texture and dabbed it on the colored flower for a couple of seconds and then heat set. Generally I like using this technique for backgrounds, not the actual colored image. It was fun to see how it blended the colors. I then started outlining it with a fine tip copic multiliner. Hmmm, I just didn’t have the patience, so I re-stamped the image with versafine onyx black ink. No, I did not get it lined up perfectly for the second stamping, but I refused to pitch it.
I fussy cut the image and then adhered it with foam tape to Simon Says Stamp smoke cardstock. Then I took a bottle of some type of shimmer spray that came with a Hero Arts Kit last year. It was a surprise to me, but I went ahead and was bold. I gave it a couple of sprays. It wasn’t until it dried that I knew what color it was….gold. And wow, for two sprays it resulted in a ton of coverage and shimmer. Again, I went with it and kept it. Not my normal, but that is okay.
I added some white dots to the centers of the flowers with a gel pen. I figured there was enough pizazz to my card, so I kept the sentiment plain and stamped it in versafine onyx black on the lower right of the card panel. Once everything was dry I adhered the panel with a layer of craft foam to my card base.
Please Note: I am going to try to include blog posts with my daily coloring challenge submissions. The key word is “try”. That is a super challenge for me. Your encouragement along the way will give me an added boost in accomplishing this. They will be quick blog posts though. If you have any questions make sure to leave them in the comments and I will reply. My entries will also be on my instagram page.
I am excited to see what all of you are coloring.
